Dermatitis is an inflammation that can be caused by an outside irritant that can produce itchy, red skin. It can, when irritated, ooze, crust, scale, and develop vesicles. These can develop suddenly and be short-lived or can become chronic in nature. In the chronic stages, dermatitis is evidenced by dry, scaly and thickened skin patches. Chronic dermatitis is commonly known as eczema.
Healthy skin is able to withstand exposure to many natural substances and some synthetic chemicals without harmful effects.
It is designed to be our first line of defense against the outside world. Substances that irritate the skin include plants such as poison ivy or poison oak, some trees, fruits and vegetables. Other irritants include fabrics such as wool and synthetics, as well as toxic household cleaners and chemicals. In addition to these external sources, there are internal conditions such as allergies, sensitivities to foods, prescriptions, and over-the-counter drugs.
* Reduce the amount of toxins in the air in your home by converting your home to Melaleuca cleaning and personal care products. Many cases of dermatitis are greatly reduced by switching to the EcoSense Laundry System and laundering all clothing, linens, and towels. Try to identify the cause of the dermatitis before aggressively treating the symptoms.
As soon as possible after the symptoms begin, wash the area with Antibacterial Liquid Soap or The Gold Bar. Additional soaking in a warm tub with 1 oz of Sol-U-Mel and 1 oz of Renew Bath Oil once daily is advised. Use Renew Intensive Skin Therapy twice daily. Triple Antibiotic Ointment is also effective. Melaleuca Oil Shampoo is highly recommended for a dry and scaly scalp.
CAUTION: Avoid using pure Melaleuca oil to treat any dermatitis condition.
