ULCERS, VARICOSE

Open sores may form on the lower leg when the veins are not functioning properly. They are usually painless and are often a result of varicose veins. They frequently become infected and are very slow to heal. Elderly people and diabetics are particularly prone to this condition due to poor circulation.
    * Wash the area carefully with Antibacterial Liquid Soap and then cover the affected area with a surgical pad saturated in a 1:3 solution of T36-C5 and olive oil.

ITCHING AND FLAKING SKIN

Itching and flaking skin can be caused by many different health conditions. Those suffering from psoriasis or allergies can experience this challenge with their skin. This condition may also be seen in people whose diet is defiCient in essential oils and some who are posttmenopausal. Also see the sections on Allergic Reactions and Psoriasis.
    * Regularly take the Vitality Pack with Oligofructose Complex and CellWise. ProVex and/or ProVex-Plus will help to restore skin suppleness and elasticity. Bathe with Renew Bath Oil or The Gold Bar. Apply Moisturizing Hand Creme or Renew Intensive Skin Therapy to the troubled areas, During the day be sure to use Sun Shades to protect your skin and keep it moisturized. Continue this at least twice a day for 10-14 days, See your health care provider for further instructions.

AMPUTATION

This is a surgical removal of a portion or all of a limb. The word amputation may also be used to describe the removal of fingers and toes. II Is estimated that 70% of all of the non-traumatic amputations are performed annually on diabetics. Diabetes inhibits the free flow of blood to areas farthest from the heart. This means that fingers and particularly toes are susceptible to the development of gangrene.

DRY SKIN

Some people have dry skin due to hormonal or nutritional deficiencies, prescription medications or a deficiency of essential fatty acids in their diet. Dry skin can also be caused by aging, the sun, or environmental stress. Hands that work in caustic or cold environments or those that are washed frequently (food handlers or health care workers) can develop excessively dry, cracked skin. Women who are going through menopause are very prone to dry skin and chapped hands. The decreased production of natural oils reduces moisture in the skin.

HIVES

Hives are a form of skin rash that consists of raised white welts mixed with red patches on the skin. Burning, itching and the formation of smooth patches characterize it. The cause of hives is an allergic or hypersensitive reaction to drug allergies, severe stress, insect stings or bites, exposure to weeds or weed venom, and ingestion of certain foods (particularly eggs, shellfish, nuts or fruits). Desensitization injections can cause hives due to a hypersensitive reaction.

GENITOURINARY INFECTIONS

Genitourinary infections are a general classification for infections of the genital and urinary organs. The antiseptic, bacterial, anti-itching, anti-fugal, anti-viral, and immune system stimulating properties of T36-C5 make it an excellent agent for dealing with genitourinary infections.

FUNGAL INFECTIONS

Several considerations are involved in understanding fungi. These organisms belong to the plant kingdom and are found on all healthy skin. Opportunistic forms of fungi that take advantage of a person s weakened immune system cause many infections. As such, fungal infections are common in people receiving x-ray therapy, taking birth control drugs, steroids, or antibiotics, diabetics, burn victims, and people with tuberculosis or emphysema. Many infections develop during tropical vacations or military service.

EARACHES

Unlike adults, the ear canal in infants and small children inclines upward from the inner ear toward its exit in the throat. This anatomical uphill climb makes children more susceptible to earaches and inner ear infections.
You do not have to have an infection to have an earache. Milk drinking after weaning, allergies, the common cold, and even teething can cause this problem. A cool breeze can set off ear canal muscle spasms. Many foreign substances have been removed from children's ear canals including beans, beads, blueberries, a live moth, and rocks.

DIAPER RASH

Diaper rash is caused by friction and irritation in the presence of moisture. It is a common skin irritation affecting babies, who have otherwise healthy skin. It triggers yeast to grow. This occurs naturally when wet diapers are not changed promptly. Babies will vary in their susceptibility to developing diaper rash. Keeping the skin as dry as possible is one of the best methods of prevention. Hospital nurseries often harbor resistant strains of these organisms, and you may bring them home in your new bundle of joy. Elderly or incontinent adults must also be aware of this challenge.

DIABETIC GANGRENE

Diabetic gangrene is a complication of diabetes, causing the tissue to die. As the condition progresses, amputation of the affected limb is the traditional course of action.
    * Dr. A. Penfold was successfully using tea tree oil on severe cases of diabetic gangrene as early as 1936. It is recommended that T36-C5 or T40-C3 be massaged into the affected area and the surrounding tissue for as long as needed. The area can also be treated with MelaGel or Triple Antibiotic Ointment, preferably on top of the oil. Frequently, the longer the condition exists, the longer it may take to get results. Coordinate this with your health care provider.

CUTICLES

The rolled skin at the edge of the fingernails and toenails can give evidence at your general health. Dry cuticles, which split and become infected, are often due to exposure to harsh soaps or solvents such as gasoline or paint thinner. See the section on Dry Skin in this book
    * After washing your hands with Antibacterial Liquid Soap or The Gold Bar, apply Moisturizing Hand Creme and work it into the cuticles to prevent dryness. Apply Triple Antibiotic Ointment or MelaGel to the infected cuticles. See your health care provider for further advice.

CORNS

Corns are raised areas of hyperkeratosis or thick, callused skin that are caused by friction or pressure over a bony extension of the foot, such as the ball or the toe joints. Hard corns occur over the toes, and soft corns occur between the toes. Corns may ache spontaneously or become very tender upon pressure. Properly fitting shoes will help prevent corns. See the section on Calluses.

CHILBLAIN

Chilblain is a painful swelling or sore, especially on the fingers or toes, caused by exposure to cold or poor circulation. It resembles a mild case of frostbite or trench foot, but is characterized by an itching or burning dermatitis and probably a sensitization to recurring exposure to cold. The main contributing factors may be contact with wetness or metal and inadequate clothing. Alcoholism or an underlying vascular or systemic disease can also cause it. The young and the old are especially vulnerable. Vitamin and mineral deficiencies can also contribute to chilblain.

CARPAL TUNNEL SYNDROME

Those who use their hands with a continual repetitive motion, such as computer operators, may experience a thickening of the nerve sheath in their wrists, causing numbness, coldness, and often pain. Prevention is the best line of defense. B vitamins and trace minerals are needed.
    * First, eliminate the repetitive motion that caused the problem until healing is completed (often 4 to 12 weeks). Take the Vitality Pack with Oligofructose Complex as directed and saturate with ProVex and/or ProVex-Plus by taking 1 capsule for every 25 pounds of body weight for two weeks. Then gradually reduce the dose until a maintenance level is reached. In addition, take Replenex or Replenex Extra Strength as directed. It has also been found to be helpful to saturate with Replenex, at least for a short time. Apply Pain-A-Trate to the inside of the wrist and outside of the elbow every 4 hours to reduce inflammation and control pain. Avoid cold water. Hot water gives temporary relief.

CHEMOTHERAPY

Chemotherapy is the use of chemical agents in the treatment or control of disease or mental illness.
    * Chemotherapy and the accompanying treatments can frequently leave you with little or no energy. It has been suggested that cancer patients may find that after only a few weeks of the Vitality Pack, CellWise, and ProVex-Plus, their energy will "zoom through the roof."

CHAPPED LIPS

Wind, cold and sun take its toll on mucous membranes of the lips. Fevers, medications and certain health conditions that lead to dehydration often cause chapped lips.
    * Usually cracking and pain can be prevented and restored to normal within 1 to 2 hours by applying Sun Shades Lip Balm every 15 to 30 minutes. MelaGel can also be used to speed recovery. In extreme cases, apply the T36-C5 directly to the lips with the fingertip, cotton ball or a cotton swab. It does not taste great, but it is very effective.

CHAPPED HANDS

Chapped hands are often caused by excessive exposure to cleaners, solvents, detergents and soapy water. This condition is characterized by small cuts or cracks in the skin.
People in the northern half of the United States and those who live higher in the mountains where there's snow and cold, as well as most people throughout Canada, experience chapped hands in the winter months. It is caused by the skin becoming excessively dry due to the lack of natural oils. In cold weather, the body's oil-secreting glands produce less oil, and what's left is often removed with hand washing.

CALLUSES

Thickening of normal skin caused by friction, usually on the hands or feet is seen in people whose work causes repeated pressure on a particular area. Brick layers, musicians, runners, surfers, and dancers develop typical calluses. See the sections on Corns and Warts.
    * Eliminate undue pressure to the affected site. Wear softer and better-fitting shoes. A moleskin or foam rubber protective bandage or arch inserts often help. MelaGel and Renew Intensive Skin Therapy applied regularly help to prevent friction at the active site. Use Body Satin Foot Scrub as directed, then apply Body Satin Foot Lotion. Massage this in until the lotion is fully absorbed. You will be amazed at how wonderful your feet feel.

BURSITIS

Small, fluid-filled, shock-absorbing sacs are present in some joints such as the elbow, knee, shoulder, hip, ankle or big toe. Inflammation of these sacs, called bursa, causes swelling and painful movement of the joint. Trauma, infections, allergies, or toxic accumulation are the usual causes. Gradual development from repetitive motion occupations can lead to chronic bursitis. Reducing coffee drinking curiously reduces bursitis of the shoulder.
